Serving Oya on Katrina's 8th Aniversary

*Oya - click to see this glorious deck!
Today marks the 8th Aniversary of Hurricane Katrina. There is so much detail I could give with regard to my own personal experience, but to be completely honest, I just plain don't want to right now. But I will tell you I sat in the airport for 8 1/2 hours that day. NOTHING but the power of prayer/positive affirmation got me the hell out of there or the city, trust and believe me on that!

There is a specific spirit who rules over storms, Oya. She is a warrior, the the keeper of the cemetaries, winds of change, and associated with massive transformation. When you need to release the things that no longer serve you well, you can call on Oya, but in my personal experience and that of those I know to have worked with her, she ain't for the faint of heart. You'd be well advised to only call on Oya when you are sick and tired if being sick and tired! She and her sister Oshun (with whom she does not get along) have both been all around me for the past 2 weeks, sending very specific signs and messages to me. As a matter of fact, Oshun told me I had to ask Oya to clear my path before she could bring in her gifts of joy and prosperity. (Note the phrase "clear my path". Ever seen footage of the path a tornado leaves when it cuts through?! It's kinda like that, it ain't pretty folks. In fact, to be blunt, it rather sucks I'd have to say!) The lady has been quite busy, and I can't say I'm not a bit worse for the wear. The thing is, your life is always better for it once th storm is over. She is the school of hard knocks.

Oya's sacred day is Wednesday and her colors are dark purple and burgundy. Items sacred to her are black plums, red grapes, red wine, eggplants, storm clouds, wind, and the machete she uses to chop down and clear out anything obstructing your path. In the tarot, she comes up for me as the Ace of Swords, the Queen of Swords, or the Death XIII card. You could call on her during a storm or when it is windy. Write or speak your petiton for the changes you need or want and ask her for the courage to weather the storm. Then place any of these cards in front of a purple candle with one of the items sacred to her. To show your gratitude, take any of these items to a cemetery, leaving it at the gate since she is who watches over it.

I brought her a gorgeous eggplant today and put it on her altar to say thank your for giving me the strength to withstand the massive changes going on in and around my life. It was also thanking her for keeping The Crescent Lady safe so far this hurricane season. And for the blessings, strength and courage that came from Katrina. The one new lesson I'm learning is to stop resisting the winds of change she blows and allow her to have you land where she sees fit and is best for you to start your path anew.

What Direction to Take CreoleMoon?

I'm searching for the particular direction I want to take this blog. I've been sitting here wondering what to do this week's post on. So I decided to ask tarot just that, what direction do I need to take Creole Moon to be of service to its audience? I chose to consult my Dark Angles tarot.

1. Page of Swords - This is a new blog and it is true that I am looking for a new way of communicating from the manner in which I do on another blog I have. I am far more long-winded (and raw lol) on that one. This page is saying I need to be clear, to educate, to be brief. I think this is also saying I need to plan out the posts in advance, maybe take a few notes, organize my thoughts and how I will communicate the message before I just dive right in.

2. Rx 9 of wands - Why did I know this card would come up when I saw it upon picking up the deck. This dark angel is saying to not stress too much about it and end up burned out. Don't make it hard. It's not.

3. The Hermit IX - This card confirms that this blog is to be more of a teaching tool than a personal blog. It is also saying that meditation will give me more clarity (yes Kiki, i hear you lmao) on how to best be of service to others with this blog.

If you have any thoughts or request on posts you'd like to see, topics you'd like covered, or a format you feel would be most beneficial, please feel free to comment.

Dark Angel on the Bayou

Last night I saw an owl. He must have been about 2' tall. I was so excited, which my cousins couldn't understand. An owl is not something you see in Center City Philly. I crossed the street to try to see him better. We were sitting outside just talking and spending good and much needed time talking and connecting. About 1/2 hour later the owl flies over to the tree right by us. I walked over and we made eye contact. I felt this strong feeling of awe and respect. I kept thinking of the High Priestess. I just received my new Dark Angels Tarot deck and I freakin' love it! And that's what the owl looked like as it flew, a beautiful dark angel. So when I came inside I did a reading asking "what was the message from the owl?"
Justice (for me, I don't care what roman numeral is printed, it's always XI), 3 of swords, 2 of swords
I've never seen any positive side to the 3ofSw until now and I think the other two cards in this particular reading are why I can. The two I was with are siblings. They love each other dearly, but there have been a lot of serious issues that were extremely painful that have come between them and caused a lot of heartache, pain and regret. I have always tried to instill in them the extreme importance of the bond of siblings, so the Justice card I see as being me. I am always the peacemaker. They have both always told me how much they love and appreciate me because I am always honest with them and treat them fairly. Even when they were young children, I talked to and treated them with dignity and respect and I always tell them there are 3 sides to every story. So I see the angel on the 3ofSw as the same angel who is pictured on Justice. On Justice it shows when I am weighing the situation and how I can say what needs to be said without taking sides of being judgemental, or when I just need to shut up and listen. The 3ofSw shows when I have to get in their grill a little bit and let them know, don't b.s. me or play me stupid and do NOT lie to me or I'll jack you up! So instead of the 3ofSw meaning a negative outside party coming between two people, it shows when I have been the peacemaker. The 2ofSw shows the choice they both made to bury the hatchet, if only for last night.
I wondered when I was shuffling if the High Priestess II would come up and was a bit disappointed when she didn't, then turned over the deck. Last night, as we sat under a gorgeous moon only one day past full, The Goddess watched over us and in the form of an owl and I am so grateful for Her.
